Southern Methodist University

This project is an expansion of a momentous community engagement initiative known as Engage Dallas started by Southern Methodist University, a private research university based in Dallas, TX. This expansion incorporates internship opportunities for students with partner community organizations and continues the university’s investment in students’ engagement with the community. For this project I wrote a 4-page literature review that compiled 10 of the most credible sources on civic engagement theory as it pertains to university initiatives and wrote multiple paragraphs explaining the structure of the program. The contextual analysis and background information that prefaced the main program narrative bolstered the strength of our proposal and illustrated to readers how confident we were in the potential for impact and sustainability of our program. The program has steadily gained traction: through this proposal a significant amount of initial funding has been provided, and it is poised to continue gaining traction and enhance students’ personal and professional development.
